abdullah-ahmad-badawi130806PUTRAJAYA, April 19 — There is nothing wrong with the PAS-led Kelantan state government’s plan to table the Private Members’ Bill on hudud in the Dewan Rakyat, said former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“What’s wrong if the matter is brought to Parliament,” he told reporters after officiating the Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah’s Excellence Award Ceremony here today.

Asked whether hudud should be implemented at the federal level, he said, “Let the implementation be carried out one at a time.”

Abdullah was accompanied by his wife, Tun Jeanne Abdullah.

Iqbal Danial Sa’id, one of the 300 students honoured at the ceremony, was named the best student for scoring Grade ‘A’ in all subjects in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) last year.

Kelantan PAS through its parliamentarians plans to table the Bill in the Dewan Rakyat to get the approval to implement the state’s Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (2) 1993 for the purpose at the latest by December.

(Hudud refers to specific rules or laws decreed by God with mandatory punishment meted out to those convicted. Punishment for offences are corporal in nature, involving whipping, stoning to death and amputation of limbs).
