Indian PM to dedicate Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in New Delhi to the Indian Diaspora on Gandhi Jayanti

New Delhi – On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Sunday, 2 October 2016,  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra (PBK) in New Delhi and dedicate it to the Indian Diaspora.

The PBK is a premier convention centre for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Indian Diaspora from different parts of the world.  The Kendra is equipped to host a wide range of activities such as meetings, seminars, classes and cultural events to facilitate exchange of ideas involving the Diaspora.  It is expected that PBK would emerge as a focal point for all activities engaging the Indian Diaspora.

PBK will also have a well stocked library with writings, books, journals and audio visual material documenting the historical emigration of Indian community to foreign shores and the contemporary linkages of the Indian Diaspora with their motherland.  It will also have writings by prominent authors from the Indian Diaspora.

The inaugural event will be webcast live at 11.30 – 12.30 hrs. Indian Standard Time (IST) on Sunday, 2 October 2, 2016. Interested members of Indian Diaspora can watch the event live on the High Commission of India’s website i.e. http://www.indianhighcommission.com.my.
