Forget Florida – Dubai is vying to take the crown from the United States as the world’s top destination for theme parks.

The city in the United Arab Emirates has become home to even more themed attractions in the last few months – and the selection on offer is only set to get bigger and better as time goes by.

Legoland Dubai and Legoland Waterpark: Visitors can explore more than 10,000 models of landmarks and scenes from around the world built entirely from Lego bricks at Legoland Dubai.

Families can also enjoy shows and funfair rides at the park, which opened at the end of October 2016 as part of Dubai Park & Resorts, the theme park group which also runs the Motiongate and Bollywood parks.

The Legoland Waterpark is set to offer slides, a wave pool and a children’s play area when it opens. Combined tickets for both attractions are priced from around 350 UAE dirham (around 92 euros).

Motiongate Dubai: The film park which immerses visitors in the on-screen worlds of Hollywood productions including Shrek, Step Up and The Hunger Games opened its doors to the public on December 16, 2016.

Until March 31, a day ticket costs 250 dirham (around 65 euros) or 215 dirham (around 56 euros) for children between 3 and 11 years old.

Bollywood Parks Dubai: Billed as the world’s first Bollywood theme park, this attraction opened in November 2016, with funfair rides and shows inspired by vibrant films from the Indian genre.

Day tickets cost 285 dirham (around 75 euros) for adults and 245 dirham (around 64 euros) for children between 3 and 12.

IMG Worlds of Adventure: Marvel heroes and villains, Cartoon Network favourites and the lost world of dinosaurs are all under one roof at this adventure park, which opened in September 2016.

And there are more parks to come: IMG Worlds of Adventure is set to get a new neighbour in 2019 when the World of Legends park arrives. A bridge will connect the two indoor parks. The World of Legends park will be dedicated to characters from Pokemon, Nickelodeon and Ubisoft video games, to name a few.

A safari park is also planned to open in early 2017, after delays to its original launch, which was scheduled for 2015.

And Fox Dubai World, which offers visitors an insight into selected films from Fox Studios of the United States, is scheduled to open in 2018.
